Have you been taking part in Veganuary this year? Or are you just interested in what vegan offerings are on the market for people on the move? We’ve put together some options for HGV and van drivers if you’re considering a dietary change.
Meals on the road
A driver’s best friend is fast food. When you’ve no time or inclination to prepare your own meals, here’s what you can expect from your favourite fast food restaurants -
Subway
Everybody’s favourite sandwich shop is packed with vegan options. Instead of a standard Meatball Marinara, go veggie instead. Subway is currently offering a Vegan Meatball Marinara Sub with vegan cheese. We’ve tried it, it’s not bad!
Additional offerings include multiple salad choices or a spicy veggie patty.
Greggs
The pioneer of takeaway vegan options; we all remember the vegan sausage roll gate! Greggs were one of the first chains to specialise in veganising customer favourites. Aside from the sausage roll, their most recent additions include the Vegan Steak Bake and a glazed ring donut.
If faux meats aren’t your thing, try the Mexican Bean and Sweet Potato Wrap with Southern Fried Wedges.
Don’t forget, their Belgian Buns are accidentally Vegan, too (apart from in the North-East, apparently).
Costa Coffee
For when you need the caffeine hit, Costa also offers a host of vegan options. You can veganise any of your drinks with alternative milks including soya, almond, oat and coconut.
If you’re feeling peckish, their most recent options include a Smoky Ham and Cheeze Toastie and an All Day Breakfast Panini – great for those early morning starts!
If you fancy something a little sweeter, Costa offer their award-winning Chocolate, Caramel and Hazelnut Cookie. They’ve also recently launched a new Rockie Road.
KFC
Less about the chicken and more about the flavour, KFC have launched their Original Recipe Vegan Burger (dubbed the KFV). A Quorn Fillet coated with the colonel’s original herbs and spices, this vegan burger is a great option for the fast food lover. Pair it with smoky baked beans and corn on the cob and you’ve got yourself a perfectly balanced meal to take on the road!
McDonalds
If you aren’t a big fan of meat substitutes, McDonalds is the place for you. McDonalds offer a great selection of choices. These include a veggie burger, spicy wrap of the day and the newest addition, vegetable nuggets.
Packed with flavour the nuggets contain red peppers, rice, sun-dried tomato pesto and split peas coated in crispy breadcrumbs. Pair one with fries and a drink and you’re good to go!
Don’t forget that the McDonald’s Apple Pie is naturally vegan. We love it when an old favourite can be enjoyed by everyone!
Burger King
Most recently, Burger King have started offering a Rebel Whopper. Ask for it without mayo and cheese and you have a vegan burger option.
Supermarket options
Whilst each supermarket contains your standard vegan and veggie options, we’ve selected some of our favourites
Tesco
Tesco provide the ‘Wicked Kitchen’ range. Offering everything from pizzas to sticky toffee pudding, they have been heralded as vegan pioneers with their plant-based alternatives.
In addition, they also offer ‘grab and go’ options including a selection of deli sandwiches, sausage rolls and a ‘Mac Attack’ salad bowl.
Asda
Asda have recently launched their own brand Plant Based range in addition to stocking some incredible vegan brands such as Applewood Smoked Vegan Cheese and the entire Naked Glory range. They also offer make your own vegan pizza at their deli counter.
Morrisons
Morrisons is a great option when you want to grab a quick ready meal on the go, offering choices including Mushroom Bolognese, Katsu Curry Melts and Beet Bourgogne. There is an option for even the fussiest of eaters.
If you fancy something sweet, we also recommend their own brand Chocolate and Red Velvet Cupcakes.
Sainsburys
Sainsburys offer a wide range of meat alternatives including Vivera’s Veggie Quarter Pounder, Tofurkey and Fry’s. All household favourites amongst the vegan community.
They have also launched their own ‘Plant Pioneer’s’ range and are proud stockists of Bailey’s Almande, a vegan equivalent to the Irish liquor.
Accidentally Vegan Products
A vegan diet doesn’t always have to be made up of specialist, processed products. Some of our old favourites are what are known as ‘accidentally vegan’.
Can you guess all of these?
