Getlink subsidiary, ElecLink - a sister company to Eurotunnel - has launched a new project to build a 1GW electrical interconnector through the Channel Tunnel to provide a transmission link between the UK and France. Benefitting from the existing infrastructure of the Fixed Link, this initiative will have a low environmental impact with no overhead lines and no undersea cables.

The works to complete the first phase of the installation will require some overnight activity resulting in a slightly reduced timetable and extended transit times due to single interval working on Friday nights (from 23h00 CET to 07:00 CET) until June 2018.

To help minimise any impact to trucks and drivers, Eurotunnel will run additional departures early on Saturday mornings.
