The Stena Ebba has officially been launched. 

Stena Line’s newest ferry, whose launch was marked by the Karlskrona naming ceremony on January 11th, will increase freight and passenger capacity on the Karlskrona ⇄ Gdynia route.

An essential link between Poland and Sweden

Built in 2022, the Stena Ebba arrived onto the  Karlskrona ⇄ Gdynia route straight from the shipyard and received her official name during the ceremony. 

While Stena Line’s latest ferry might have a host of modern transport innovations (see below), tradition was still observed during the ceremony. Ulrica Messing, Governor of the Blekinge region, Sweden, smashed a bottle of champagne against the vessel. 

Being launched just months after the Stena Estelle (who covers the same route) the Stena Ebba represents the ever-strengthening bonds between Sweden and Poland. Stena Line is a leading advocate for this mutually beneficial relationship. 

For example, in June of last year, Stena Line transferred to a new ferry terminal in the Port of Gdynia. This change allows for berthing of 240m vessels and, thanks to its convenient proximity to the railway line, also enables businesses to benefit from intermodal solutions. 

A capacity increase of 60% vs. the previous vessel 

With a passenger capacity of 1,200 and a truck capacity of 200, the Stena Ebba can hold a greater capacity than its predecessor.

• 263 cabins
• 6,4m draught 

Last but certainly not least, the vessel is optimised to be as energy-efficient and environmentally friendly as possible. 

For example, the precise design of the vessel allows it to use shore power during port calls, a feature which will reduce exhaust emissions and tie in with Stena Line’s long-term commitment to sustainability.
